Today I'm rocking a new album by some old musicians, Ali Farka Toure and Toumani Diabate.
Toure, sadly, passed away a couple years back. He was long known as the Bluesman of the Savannah and blended finger-style blues guitar work with traditional music of his native country, Mali. Toumani Diabate is one of the most celebrated players of the kora, a traditional stringed instrument. The new album is called Ali and Toumani. Thus far it is a bit more low key than some of Farka's older stuff but it is really well done, especially if you are a fan of intricate, funky guitar work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PKdK_68r0A My favorite album of Toure's is called Savane. Just brilliant stuff and some great blues. This video is a nice kind of overview of the album and Toure's live playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2U1ViQCPA0&feature=related And if you like the songs linked above, you might want to check out Toure's son, Vieux. I don't think he is quite as talented as his dad, but he's a lot of fun and he tours America periodically. Cheers, Judah ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Want to reach the ColdFusion community with something they want?
