I agree. I've got both a Blackberry (no voice, just work email) and a WinMo 6.5 (HTC Touch Pro) and I can see a lot of nice things in the BB, but it's really a different class of device. A "normal" smart phone (mine, the Droid, iPhone, etc) has a large (full face) touch screen while the BB has a much smaller non-touch screen. This makes a HUGE difference - with the track pad and hard buttons as your only input you sacrifice a huge amount of versatility and the small screen tends to amplify the problems of small screens even more. In addition BB is very closely tied to the RIM server solution unlike all other phones. You don't set up your email, you register it with the server and the server gets the email, possibly reformats it and forwards it to the device. I've never had a problem with this... but I'm still (perhaps unrealistically) mildly nervous about it. That said there are definite pluses to the BB. The platform has some really nice hardware features - multiple charging methods (it's the last platform with REALLY nice, simple, drop-in docking style - although it still doesn't actually come with a dock). It's "holster aware" - you can set what action you want to occur when you remove it from the holster. It's got a great camera (for a phone) and the trackpad is as good as you could hope. The screen is small but gorgeous and the keyboard well contoured (although too cramped for me - I greatly prefer the full length-keyboard on my Touch Pro). I guess you really can't go wrong with either, but I prefer any of the major smart phones (well... except the iPhone since I refuse to ever install iTunes ever, ever again!) over the BB.
