I agree. I kind of unplugged from the process a while back because I found it distasteful, but yet. I think we needed to have something pass, and for the sky not to fall. I am cautiously hopeful. Washington has a way of pulling clouds out of silver lining, but it has still initiated programs that do some good. Medicare and Pell grants come to mind.
I also think that the right seems to regard this as a zero-sum game, whereas the numbers could all too soon go negative. In my own case for instance __ as I explained a while back, I fall into the pre-existing condition category big-time due to big scary diagnoses, yet so long as I get a minimum of monitoring and an Rx that costs $8 at Wal-Mart, I am in good health ::shrug:: Without it I am a sure-fire five-figure hospital bill, which might not even keep me alive. My point is that once you deal with all the after-effects of deferred maintenance, it's probably cheaper to insure people than to not insure them. Look at my friend Cathi, who died for lack of an insulin supply. I *know* she was in the hospital four or five times for a diabetic come, and I suspect more. How much more than then insulin did *that* cost? > Yup, exactly. It certainly is myopic to think that this one piece of > legislation will fix all the issues with health care, there are far too many, > and they are way too complex to fix that easily.
