It's still bad...  and with the Sept 11 backlash and all the Airport
security schmucks they have to background check now, it's taking almost 24
months.

Sucks.

Don't know about these days, but back when I worked in a
non-clearance area at Lawrence Livermore Lab in 1989 it
took about a YEAR to get through the backlog and
actually get a clearance.

Sometimes they would hire a scientist and have to "park"
them in trivial jobs for months and months while waiting
for their clearance to go through.
