They no longer charge for the first one, and were very upfront from the
beginning (and had them printed on the bill every month) about both of those
charges, so I'd hardly call them hidden.

People unhappy with a service are likely to start complaining about every
little thing, so I take such complaints from disgruntled customers with a
pillar of salt. All services have their problems, no doubt. My biggest
problem with DishNetwork has been the 1 or 2 times I've had to reduce my
service due to financial straights...there's a fee to 'reduce' service. It's
not hidden, just unexpected, and untimely when you're in a financial crunch
and realize that reducing your service won't give you a net gain for another
billing cycle.
