wasn't it about sacrifice.... instead of a pilgrim bringing first fruits or THE ABSOLUTE BEST live stock. they where purchasing a Representative of there sin to be sacrificed. which in turn became, if you do not pay to have the priest receive your sacrifice you will not be atoned of said sin.
