How do you succeed from the Union? I didn't know it was a matter of
success or failure - pardon the pedantic point there.

Back tot he issue. New England has tried it about 3 times. In the War
of 1812 the parts of New England that was not occupied by the British
(ie., most of Maine) had to be occupied by the US to prevent the
secession.
