There are parts of Arizona that are magnificent - the Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, Sedona. I love to visit there.
However, western Arizona and the part of California adjoining Arizona has little to offer for a day trip unless you're into desert. Most of the action is on the coast, or in the mountains.
