In 1997, when I started CF, it was pretty much asp classic, php, perl or CF.
Of all of those, CF was definitely the best choice. Granted, I've never done
Perl in my life, but I have dabbled in the others.

Right before I inherited my first cf project, I had just finished up a Borland
C++ Builder project. I was amazed at how fast you could get data on a web page
compared with Builder. I can honestly say though that I was never in love with
the language. It didn't excite me like C++ did back then or how ruby does now.

CFMX 6.0 started my looking for alternatives...well that and the rise of all
the xml controlled frameworks :) Granted, 6.1 came out relatively quickly and
fixed most of the issues, but I could never shake the feeling that OO had just
been "bolted on".

I haven't written a new CF project since the 2nd half of 2006.

Would I have chosen another path? Nope! CF filled a niche that nobody else
was addressing. It got me into the position that I work in now and I'm
thankful for that.
