Depending on how long you are here, there are a lot of cool places to go in the city. If you are staying in the downtown area, cabs are ok and not too expensive, but you can also purchase weekend passes and multi-day passes for the CTA and that is really cheap....you can get just about anywhere via CTA (busses and trains) in the city and some of the collar suburbs (the passes are available at the RTA headquarters on Jackson or at the big train stations, like Union Station (there are 4 of them downtown with trains going as far north as Kenosha, WI and east to South Bend, IN and about 40 miles out to the south and west). Right in the downtown area, you have the Museum Campus with the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum of Natural History, and the Adler Planetarium. A bit further south is the Museum of Science and Industry. Definite must sees. If you are an Art fan, the Art Institute is one of the premier art museums in the world so I am told (not an art fan *grin*). There also tons of smaller Museums/Cultural centers around the city. Food wise, you get to pick from just about any food in the world in Chicago...it's one of my favorite aspects of the city.
Going out to the burbs is a bit difficult without a car (if you want to do that, renting a car would be advisable). A good exception is Brookfield Zoo...which I highly recommend. You can take the Metra Trains (Burlington Northern/Santa Fe line) from Union Station to the "Zoo Stop" in Berwyn and the Zoo is a short walk from there. Public transportation sucks in the suburbs and gets worse as you go further west. If you are here next weekend, we are having a bonfire and house warming party and you are welcome to attend (if you don't mind hanging out with a bunch of heathens). You can take the train out to Lisle and we can pick you up at the station, which isn't far from my house. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. -----Original Message----- From: Cameron Childress [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, June 11, 2010 9:11 PM To: cf-community Subject: Hello Chicago Dear Chicago- Great to be back to visit.
