Hey it works for almost every other major democracy.

The point being the US Federal system is geared towards two parties.
Its in their interest to make sure that third parties are not
represented in congress or the presidency. By making it easier to
elect 3rd parties that breaks the two party lock on power. A
parliamentary system does that.
