Mura isn't so bad, and FarCry is powerful and mature.

Drupal isn't exactly non-complicated, neh?

CFWheels is pretty Rails-ish... CakePHP, Zend Framework (sorta), and
Symfony are similar attempts (Symfony maybe being the easiest?).

Things are moving this direction. Open Source CFML is still
relatively new. Once some PHP heads and whatnot realize how swell it
is, and see things like Railo and OpenBD, I think stuff will change
even faster.

The word is getting out, but we can all help by getting more CFML
sites, projects and applications out there, I reckon.

Using CFML is arguably easier than using PHP (or etc.!), so I don't
think it's too amazing that so many folks roll their own.

There are a lot of reasons, but I agree with your basic premise. We
need more high profile projects, for sure.

They've also been "free" for a while longer than CFML has been, even
though CFML has been around as long or longer.

But my point is, "they" are out there. Have you played with ColdBox?
CFWheels? OnTap, etc.?

I feel a [apparently] hidden groundswell. Watch and learn, young'un. ;-)
