McCain was asked for his birth certificate as well. There was something about the possibility of his being born in Panama. The difference is that McCain gladly showed his birth certificate and Obama screamed racism until someone looked his up in Hawaii's state records. I'd say that pretty well negates the argument that it's racist to ask for his birth certificate. At this point it's ignorant, but ignorance is easily fixed (unless it's willful ignorance that is).
