My wife and daughter were on a plane several years ago that had to make an emergency landing in DC. The problem had to do with cabin pressure.
My wife said the plane was cruising along and all of a sudden went into a steep dive. Not very comfortable she said. It was around 10:30 at night. There was no one to fix the problem and no other planes available. They loaded everyone back onto the plane and flew at a low altitude to its destination.
