I've been away from my email and busy taking care of a newborn for the
last week and really don't have time today to look through the backlog,
so I apologize if this point has been made already.

Building a mosque near ground zero is probably not the best idea. True
it was extremists who hit the WTC, but they were still Muslims acting on
their faith. A mosque in that location will serve as a log on the fire
of anti-Muslim sentiment in certain sectors of American society and
should probably be avoided on that basis until the relations between
Muslim America and the rest of America are normalized again.

That said, while I (and I'm sure a whole lot of other people) think it's
a bad idea I don't think that any of us has the right to tell them that
they can't build it there. The Muslims of New York have just as much
right to put a mosque on the same block as ground zero as the Christians
have to put a church there. It may be a bad idea, but then if we were to
outlaw bad ideas we'd have to throw most of the nation in jail.
