The British made fine cars. They were just in the shop all the time (much like many Italian cars). I really liked some of the old Rovers.
Honestly though, if you are going to spend the money for a nice BMW, why not spend about that much or a little more and get a Lotus? The Elise is under 50K and is a pretty, pretty car.
