Thunderer is a warship that hangs above the city as a reminder of the
power of The Bird, it features prominently in the first book.

A boy leaping from building to building following The Bird as it
sweeps over the City finds that the Bird's power of flight is imbued
in him.

Arjun, a traveler from a far off land, has come to the City to find
his God,a sound that his people (The Chorusmen) have dedicated their
lives to emulating and projecting, but now has retreated from his
people. Arjun was the last to hear it.

The City itself has no borders and is constantly changing and being
reshaped by Gods that roam the streets freely.

At the center (edge? far side?) of the city is a mysterious Mountain
that no one seems to be able to pinpoint the exact location of.

Arjun is set on a path that spans the lifespan of the City and learns
to travel through "doors" that are passages to times in the past
present and future of the city.

In doing so, Arjun releases a dark presence into the world.

And it hunts him.
