Maureen, I am trying to figure out your point.  A major focus of the
editorial was that the middle class is buying all of the "stuff" that the
economy is producing.  So, while taxes may help buy a stealth bomber for the
Air Force, my neighbor isn't buying one to park in the garage.

Maybe you're saying that taxes are being spent on things that the middle
class don't want or that taxes are too high.  I'm with you on that.

Anyway, your point does lead to an interesting aside.  How much of the
stealth bomber is my neighbor paying for?

The top 50% of wage earners pay 96% of federal income taxes.
The top 10% of wage earners pay 65% of federal income taxes.
The top 5% of wage earners pay 53% of income taxes.

This probably isn't enough of a hit on the wealthy for Mr. Reich, but it
does seem to be a significant amount.
