Well his comments + the recession. The convention business didn't go elsewhere. They just didn't go. LV locals went ape-shit about his comments and he retracted them. As the economy has improved so has the convention business. I think the economy had much more to do than his comments.
My last job had me in LV about every six weeks and I spoke to a lot of cab drivers while I was down there. My understanding is that "Obama killing LV convention business" is just a sound bite. Bush killed it more by burning down the building on his way out.
