Two interesting pieces of news I came across recently.

Expect doc shortages to worsen in post-reform era:
AAMC<http://www.modernhealthcare.com/article/20100930/NEWS/309309971/0>

Excerpt:

Without increases in residency training, physician shortages post-reform
will continue to worsen for both primary and specialty care, the Association
of American Medical Colleges is reporting.

The AAMC estimates that there will be a shortage of 45,000 primary-care
doctors and 46,000 surgeons and medical specialists over the next decade,
driven in part by the healthcare reform law's new coverage expansions and
the aging of the population.

More ammunition for the rationing and death panel contingency.

Insurer Cuts Health Plans as New Law Takes
Hold<http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/01/health/policy/01insure.html?_r=2&ref=todayspaper>

Excerpt:

The Principal Financial Group announced on Thursday that it planned to stop
selling health insurance, another sign of upheaval emerging among insurers
as the new federal health law starts to take effect.

The company, based in Iowa, provides coverage to about 840,000 people who
receive their insurance through an employer.

So, this week we have seen the McDonald's insurance situation and Harvard
Pilgrim drop medicaid advantage. Other the last several months, we have
seen many institutions stop covering children. The rate of medical care
providers dropping medicaid is increasing. If you have insurance and you're
nervous about its future existence, seems like you have good reason.

You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you
do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do
well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq. - John Kerry
