The interests of a single state (using the IR term for a country) in
doing the best for its people are out of whack with the interests of
private enterprise in a capitalist system. This wasn't always the
case, but technology has shrunk the world to the point where virtually
any task a business needs done can be performed by a person anywhere
on the planet. The result has been a mad dash by capitalists to
low-wage states.

Dogmatic Capitalists will tell you that it will all be OK, that growth
will bring prosperity to all if we just unleash the inner capitalist
in us all. That view fails to acknowledge the reality of modern
international capitalism- that the open market is a myth in world
trade. Countries like China exert tremendous power in promoting their
goods at the expense of others, creating distortions in the supposed
"free" market in their favor.

What to do about it? In the long term, growing wealth in the
developing world will fuel a resurgence in wealth in the developed
world, but it is going to be a bumpy ride for the next decade or so.

Personally, I am not too concerned about it. Either the people with
all the money will spread it around (think Gates/Buffett drive to get
billionaires to give their money to charity), or eventually everyone
else will elect someone who promises to take all the money away from
those naughty rich people
