I read this morning part of the transcript from the Anderson Cooper
interview.

It sounds like he actually has a passion for the historic reenactment. He
has at times also participated in Civil War and World War I reenactments. I
know many reenactors (did F&I War reenactions myself way back when - still
have the britches and the long gun), but very few who are interested in more
than one era. Just the true military history nuts.
