PHP is a powerful language, but you'll have to learn it, and will have to do
more code writing when using it. You also don't get a lot of the features
that are "out of the box" with CFAS. I wouldn't recommend dropping the use
of CF just because of some rumor. On that note, I really don't know what's
happening at Macromedia, but I can tell you that rumors like this have been
flying around about allaire/macromedia from time to time for several version
releases now.... it's nothing to take seriously when making a business
decision regarding whether or not to use CF.

hmm... I tried sending this before but I don't think it got through I
apologize if this is a duplicate.

Hi all,

Someone that I am working for/with has heard the rumors about macromedia
(layoffs and stuff) and is starting to get nervous. He wants to jump to php
for the project that we are working on. He doesn't know anything about php
(someone told him it was a good idea) and I don't know enough about php to
say whether or not it's a good idea. I guess what I'm asking is 1)How
powerful is php compared with coldfusion and 2) what is going on with
macromedia

Thank you
Regina
