Jocelyn is my ex-wife's (and best friend) name. A lovely name indeed. For us, girl names were a lot easier to decide on than boy names. For girl names, we had a couple of principles: We wanted something classic, not too common, but recognizable as a name that people could spell and pronounce.
My wife and I both had plenty of experience with having odd names, with being named Danica and Judah respectively. We knew one name we wanted, Adelaide. It is a family tradition on my side where the oldest girl in each generation alternates between Claire and Adelaide. So my sister is Leah Claire, my mother was Adelaide, my grandmother was Claire, my great-grandmother was Adelaide, etc, going back aways. Since my sister had two boys, it was time for an Adelaide when my daughter came along. For her first name, we went through lists of names we liked. It was tough because Danica was an infant/toddler teacher for a number of years, so a lot of names had very personal connections to her because of specific kids. In the end, we liked some traditional English/Irish/Scottish names like Fiona, Eleanor, etc. We decided on Eleanor Adelaide McAuley because of the way it rolls off the tongue and because Eleanor has a number of easy variations that she can use in her later life if she wants. We call her Ellie, but she could be Ellie, Eleanor, Norah, etc. So, G, what are the criteria that you and the wifey are thinking about for names? I'm trying to think of something that sounds good with the last name, Money. Liza Money? Joy Money? So many options...
