Subject: Those arsenic-based bacteria found at Mono Lake? Not so fast

There has been a big backlash over the publication of the article in Science
that claims to have found a species of bacterium in Mono Lake that can use
Arsenic instead of Phosphorous in the creation of several key components of
itself (like it's DNA). A pretty large cadre of microbiologists have said,
at their most charitable, "That paper should never have been published".
People would like to think that there is a bacterium that can do what the
authors claim it does, but the evidence seems to be mounting that their
research was shoddy at best and very possibly flat out wrong.
