On Monday, Britain arrested 12 men in an anti-terrorist sweep; the biggest
such sweep in two years. That same Monday, James Clapper, Director of US
Intelligence was interviewed by Diane Sawyer. Deviating from the normal
line of softballs given to officials in Democratic administrations, Diane
hits James with this stunner: "First of all, London," Sawyer said. "How
serious is it? Any implication that it was coming here?" After a few
moments of stunned silence and a "deer in the headlights" look, Diane
follows up with "Director Clapper?" Director Clapper had no idea what the
hell Mrs. Sawyer was talking about.

Granted, the raid and interview took place on the same day. However, the
raid took place way before dawn in the US while the interview happened in
the afternoon. Apparently, no one thought it was important enough to brief
Director Clapper about the biggest terrorist sweep in UK in two years on the
day he was scheduled to be interviewed by ABC.

Secondly, and maybe even more disturbing, was the apparent lack of
communication between the US and the UK. Seems like this is the kind of
thing that the UK used to give the US advance notice of. If they did given
advance notice, why wasn't Clapper notified? If they didn't, why leave us
in the dark? Maybe they are still pissed off because Obama removed the
Churchill bust from the White House.

The White House has jumped in and defended Clapper saying the question
was ambiguous. I am not convinced.

In the same interview Janet Gestapliano dropped this gem: "We are thousands
of people are working 24/7, 364 days a year to keep the American people
safe,"
Hope no one I know is flying on the day they are not working.

Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of power. It is
hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people
against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean
to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters,
but they mean to be masters. - Daniel Webster
