"I am all for term limits, but I think the whole 'throw the bums
out' mentality doesn't take into consideration that sometimes
the replacement will be worse that what it there now."

That doesn't happen now? With term limits, at least a party could start
looking for a decent candidate two years out.

"I certainly know that was the case for several offices in the last election
out here. The governor's race was term limited and look what we're stuck
with now."

You don't like Jerry? Was the other choice that much better than Jerry?
Didn't I just read that Jerry is breaking bad and taking 20k cell phones
away from state employees?

"If a congress critter is representing the people who that put them in
office, those of a different political bent aren't gonna like
them."

You're exactly right here. It is why our country is not a democracy, but a
democratic republic. Each district can elect someone who believes in their
ideals. Unfortunately, after being in DC for 20 years, politicians don't
seem to give a damn about their constituents. See the health care deform
vote. Overwhelmingly unpopular, yet representative after representative
voted for it, constituents be damned.

"So it's hard for them to have a high national approval rating. The best
example of this is Nancy Pelosi, who consistently gets low
national ratings, but was reelected by 80% because the voters in
her district like what she is doing."

Like has been noted before, the politicians on the extreme ends are usually
safe, many times due to gerrymandered districts. The closer to the middle
you are, the more vulnerable you are.

The Utopian schemes of levelling, and a community of goods, are as visionary
and impracticable, as those which vest all property in the Crown, are
arbitrary, despotic, and in our government unconstitutional. Now what
property can the colonists be conceived to have, if their money may be
granted away by others, without their consent? - Samuel Adams
