Of course Iraq was a precursor to these events. Iraqis are the only Arabs
living in a democratically elected country, with a free press and many
individual rights. You think twenty-something Arabs all over the Middle East
don't know that? They have seen what regular Iraqis have achieved at great
personal cost. I believe this knowledge has given protesters in the Arab
world the courage to stand up to their despotic governments. Even Iran is
being shaken by protests now. That's all about freedom.

There is no guarantee that they will end up with a democracy, but unlike
historical events that point away from a democratic outcome, this revolution
is taking place in full view of cameras, live on the Internet. Even cutting
off Internet access to the country failed to save the regime in Cairo. There
is simply no way to keep the world out now. And we, the outside world, can
sit on the sidelines and cheer for Egyptians to realize their dreams of
living in a free and prosperous country. All because of the connecting power
of the Internet. Brilliant!
