For anybody that hasn't been in this area, I can't recommend it more - it was awesome! I'm officially jealous of Robert.
At the very last minute we changed our vacation plans due to the Japanese thing and about the only place that was available and sounded remotely affordable (and appealing) was in Carlsbad, CA. Gotta say I'm no big fan of LA (no offense) so I wasn't very jazzed but, hey, vacation is vacation and it had the benefit of being warmer than MN and an easy flight. Wow, was I surprised! Beautiful, scenic (rolling mountains and the ocean of course), great weather, friendly and a nice drive down from LA. Went to the Zoo, drove all around the northern SD area, etc. We were going to do Sea World and a Coronado cruise but decided to save that for ... next time! Because we're certainly going back. Maybe in May if we can find some cheap deals! Great mix of hippies and yuppies especially at coffee joints like Pannikin and Escondido Joe's, and not one but TWO Roy's in the area (La Jolla and downtown). Their butterfish is awesome, although this time I was really into their hamachi sashimi. And overall super affordable. We both eat fairly organic so it was great to be able to go to Jimbo's grocery store on a daily basis (given use of a small fridge in our room). Also there's lots of cheap foodie-type gastro-pub places where you can get great grass-fed/finished burgers like The Counter and BurgerLounge. The Counter is especially cool because you custom order the burger and it has a zillion awesome topping options plus you can get it in a bowl (over lettuce). Sports-wise we were able to swim outdoors every morning and our place had a so-so gym. Even better was all the nature trails around the bays and the beach itself of course. First day I got fairly sun-burned thinking it would be mild Sun. Wrong! All-in-all a great time and, if you were like me and kinda lumped in San Diego with LA (in a not-so-good way), then change your mind because you're missing out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:335519 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
