I gave my mom more money after I moved out of the house at 18 than
vice-versa and helped out even when I was in high school. She was an
awesome mom in all sorts of ways but financial fortitude wasn't one of
them. She did the world quite a bit of good but I put her cremation on
my credit card at age 29.

Anecdotes are just that.
