As you know if you have read much of what I've posted over the last 12
years, I hated George Bush. But lately something very interesting has
happened. I'm writing a novel that is loosely based on the events of
9/11. When I started writing it, the character of the President was
truly evil. But as the book developed, I decided to rewrite the
character as tragically flawed instead of evil. In order to do so and
make the character believable, I had to revisit my opinion of Bush. I
read his autobiography, a number of his speeches, and several books by
members of his administration. My opinion of him has somewhat
moderated. I still dislike a lot of the actions he took, but I am
convinced that the real evil lay with his handlers and not with him,
and his flaw was that he was not strong enough to stand up to them
once he realized he was being manipulated. It was quite a revelation.

Cheney, on the other hand, is still the Dark Lord. No amount of
revisiting history can wash the evil from him.
