Rosalynn Carter introduced me to Chris LeDoux's music. Now that's a
strange connection.

Do you get all the references in Luckenbach? We were touring a lot
and occasionally were booked on the same shows during the time he cut
that song. All those guys were around...Mickey, Kristofferson, Jerry
Jeff. Geez, we were all so young and naive. We really thought that
we could write intelligent songs, play good music, and actually make
it in the music business. Kris, Willie and Waylon are the exceptions.
The rest of us got our butts kicked all the way back to the farm..
So it's great to see Mickey finally getting some attention, even
though he's gone and can't appreciate it.

The weirdest part of listening to An American Trilogy is that I can
remember in vivid detail the exact incidents that inspired some of the
songs. Memories I thought long buried just boiling over.
Bittersweet.
