I'm reading the latest issue of G.I. Joe and there's a panel where a
character is on his back, shooting off a grenade launcher to try and hit a
sniper. As he's doing it, he's saying to another character "Time for some
Kentucky Windage, Bro". This brings the obvious question to mind - what is
Kentucky Windage?
The answer is rather simple but led somewhere interesting. Basically,
Kentucky Windage is adjusting a shot to take wind into account without using
any physical tools such as an adjusted scope. You're taking a calculated
'guess' of how the wind will adjust your shot and then shooting into the
direction of the wind with the assumption that the wind will alter the shot
to where you want it to be.
The somewhere interesting that it led was this US Army training video

Great depiction of what Kentucky Windage is, terribly
racist/culturalist/whatever execution. But it was the 1940's so what do you
expect.
