Do we even have the resources to win? There is a reason Afghanistan is known as the killer of empires.
I think we tried that strategy in Vietnam...that didn't work out so well. I think if we wanted to accomplish anything like a victory, it would require that we build them up so that they have a healthy infrastructure so they would be less likely to continue with the warlord mentality and more likely to structure things like western nations. I think we would then scale back military ops to a defensive/Security one to make sure that the Taliban isn't trying to destroy what we are building and the rest might (big might) just take care of themselves. Most of the uprising and other guerilla warfare situations exist where people are not happy with how things are going and have their backs to the wall. If they are more successful, that reduces the level of unrest and reduces the likelihood of the success of extremists.
