I'm not really sure what your point is. If the original point that cell
phones have less impact than phone books on the environment is still what
we're discussing, then I'd say again it's false. There's *more*
transport necessary for cell phones, as they all come from overseas
manufacturing. Worse so is that the countries making said electronics don't
have as stringent emissions laws so the pollution is even worse. The process
of creating plastics and circuit boards requires much more pre-processing
and consumes much more energy, and that's not even including the mining
process to get copper and other metals that's part of the circuit boards.
The process to recycle electronics is also much worse than that of recycling
paper products. And of course all these cell phones come in... boxes... made
of paper. And what about the manuals and warranty cards? Paper.

And of course... you can plant more trees.
