I have an ID (my Dl) but I have never had a passport.  Most places even if
you use a debit card don't check ID (even though, technically, they are
supposed to).  Unless you are buying something that is age restricted or has
laws to support lazy police work and you don't get pulled over driving, you
probably won't need an id.
