re: strange thread - agreed
we're weaving the technicolor dreamcoat or something

let me add a strange story re: the funerals in 1990:

one Friday night, I come home from Kol Nidre services
(the beginning of Yom Kippur) to learn that my father's
father had just passed away in Miami. His funeral was
going to be Monday in NY. I had to get tickets to fly to
NY on Sunday.

On Saturday, my aunt (his daughter) passed away in
Houston. The funeral was also going to be in NY on
Monday.

My son (age 10 at the time) insisted on going with me.

We stayed with my other aunt and uncle in Woodmere, Long
Island not far from JFK airport. Drove to the Bronx for
Grandpa's graveside Orthodox funeral. Then to a funeral
home on Coney Island Ave. in Brooklyn for my aunt's
service, then to a cemetary about 50 miles away in
Westchester County for her burial. Then back to Long
Island. I won't forget that day for a while...

Son was offended that because he wasn't 13 yet they
wouldn't let him toss a shovelfull of earth into his
great-grandpa's grave. :-(

what makes it even wierder: my dad's brother and his
wife had moved to Florida. But they were in NY that
weekend for their 50th Wedding Anniv. party on Sunday.
Instead of the party, my uncle had to plan his father's
and sister's funerals.

and my aunt was muttering about how grandpa had ruined
her wedding day 50 years before, and now from death he
was managing to ruin her anniversary - as if he planned
it or something.

can you say w-i-e-r-d ??
