Read into it what you like, but if a male candidate came out and
implied he'd be a puppet for his wife to control, I'd take just as
much issue with that.  It just so happens that she claims to interpret
the Bible in a way that supports a belief that women should be
submissive and do whatever their husbands say.  Frankly, that kind of
deference is not a quality I want to see in the President.  The actual
gender of the candidate makes no difference to me, but who they claim
they will defer to in matters of importance matters a great deal.
