Bureaucracy and political correctness, I know how to fix. Not sure
how to fix bad parenting, or even what it is. My parents, whom I love
dearly, were abysmal at parenting by any standards. Yet my siblings
were excellent students, graduated with honors and have been quite
successful in life. My friend had what most would define as perfect
parents - his mother was an English teacher and won several Teacher of
the Year awards - yet he did poorly in school, and is still struggling
to get by. Exceptions, perhaps, to the poor parents cause poor
students rule. I do know that parents who take an interest in their
child's education tend to be a force for improvement at the local
school. Unfortunately, in today's economy, that is not always
possible.
