"why fire him?"

Only if it warrants firing him.  For example, if he is committing libel or
slander.  If he isn't, then no, he should be fired.

My point was that cyber-stalking is a completely ridiculous.  It seems like
the police department is trying to find a crime that fits their desire to
punish the "perpetrator".
