There are so many sides to this issue... obviously we don't want people
coming into the country illegally...  however the sheer logistics of
capturing the 12 million or so that are already here is at best impractical
and at worst a colosal drain on the already strained resources of the US.

The best thing to do is take away the attraction.. if businesses knowingly
hire illegals then the state or federal government should be allowed to
confiscate and liquidate the business and jail the owner. If they
unknowingly hire illegals, fine the business heavily..including businesses
that abuse the H1B visa regulations.

It makes more fiscal sense to allow someone who is already working and
paying into the system to continue to pay into the system.
