I would get something as beefy as you can afford. I put together a system 3 years ago and it is still very much a good and powerful system. With everything going to 64 bit, take advantage of the increased memory capability. I would recommend at least 8 gig. That should give you plenty of memory to take advantage of Aero and other advanced desktop features. You can get pretty high end processors with multiple cores for good prices. As far as video, if you want and AMD chip, get an ATI card. While you can get AMD boards with nVidia support, the bulk of them are not AMD/ATI combo's as AMD owns ATI....which kinda sucks for me as I prefer AMD and nVidia. The difference is the support for multiple video cards. nVidia uses a technology called SLI and ATI uses a technology called Crossfire. I have also seen boards that support both. If you do not plan on using multiple video cards, then it doesn't matter as you can use an nVidia card in a Crossfire board as long as you are just using one card. I also generally stick with creative sound cards. They plug and play with windows seamlessly.

Actually, I am about to buy a new PC and have been thinking about what I need on it. I still have enough client work / programs that require Windows that I have to keep one around. I really don't want to buy a PC as a secondary machine and then find myself fighting it all the time because of fancy new features that get in my way. So this conversation is of interest. Plus, since when did we stop arguing for argument's sake on this list? :) -Cameron -- Cameron Childress -- p: 678.637.5072 im: cameroncf facebook <http://www.facebook.com/cameroncf> | twitter<http://twitter.com/cameronc> | google+ <https://profiles.google.com/u/0/117829379451708140985> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:342245 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
