The 5 or so interviews I saw were all believable enough. It sounded like things that relatives would say to one another on the phone in such situations ... just matter of fact things. Nothing 'heroic' or dramatic until they started talking about taking the cockpit. Even then it was like they were talking about going to the front and just punching the guy in the face.
Then there was the black box. I don't remember if I actually heard it, or just read a transcript. I will have a look around. I don't see any reason they would make it up. People would understand. Things like that have been part of the plot in countless movies. It isn't like the general public is unaware that it is a consideration. Getting *everyone* to cover it up seems like much more of a hassle than just admitting they had to shoot it down. It also seems more likely that the truth would get out eventually and all parties involved would look worse than if they had just been straight to begin with. Then again, when does the government ever decide on the common sense thing, especially when pressed for time?
