I was older than 4. Still a kid, but old enough to see what was going
on. And, yes, I was a prodigy super genius who spent a lot of time
reading the newspaper and discussing politics while other people were
watching Transformers (which I did not care for). I preferred
Thundercats. For what it's worth, 1980 was the first time I really
paid much attention to politics and childhood Judah supported John
Anderson. I didn't agree with all his positions but I admired his
independent streak and his honesty with voters.

That's what family is for, I guess. Regan just came off as hollow and
I never trusted the man.

I don't know. The life span of a super power is pretty short. How will
we deal with diminishing influence in the world? Will we be able to
find a new balance and figure out our place in the world while being
able to uphold the democratic principles and institutions upon which
we were founded? I don't know. I doubt that the America of 150 years
from now will look much like the America of 100 years ago. That may
(or may not) be a bad thing but if you look at the progression and
lifespans of countries and empires, I think that what we currently
call America will be a different thing in 100 years. Just a guess
though, obviously.
