(And I will state now that I did not go check the political affiliation of the group in the first link- so Larry may not like it :D ) Intent of design or intent of user aside, in 2008 automobile accidents were the cause of death for about the same number of people as firearms - the stats pretty much show that. Again, I am not so much anti-gun control. I am anti-bad gun control. Most gun control measures I have seen would impact law abiding citizens attempting to buy a gun. They would have little or no effect on the illegal procurement of weapons - kind of like SOPA/PIPA would have no real effect on piracy, but would/could cause trouble for law abiding Internet users. If a gun control measure was introduced that truly limited illegal procurement of weapons, I would be all for it. I am not sure if the stats exist - I did a brief search but came up with nothing - but I wonder how many of those firearm related deaths were from illegally obtained weapons - the ones that gun control laws would have no effect on.
