FWIW, I am white. And I used to have long hair. (a hair farmer as my friends called me)
And I often got stopped by the police, sometimes with guns drawn. And avoided with a well-timed street-crossing. And pursed-clutched. It's not just about being black. It is also about not matching "the norms". Which, unfortunately for many young black men in many societies, puts them right out of the running.
