I personally don't think it is a negative. If it is used in opposition in a constructive or humorous way, that is valuable feedback and communication. If it is used purely in irony or humor, that I believe is what the internet was invented for. If it is used as intended, for a positive and inclusive message flow, wonderful.
If, however, it is used for mean or destructive comments, or a "campaign" in opposition, or just "me too" negative feedback, I think that says way more about the SENDERS, and has a net-positive effect for the original idea. Much like idiots at pep rallys heckling from the crowd. Especially when the content is neither original nor clever.
