I personally don't think it is a negative.

If it is used in opposition in a constructive or humorous way, that is
valuable feedback and communication.
If it is used purely in irony or humor, that I believe is what the internet
was invented for.
If it is used as intended, for a positive and inclusive message flow,
wonderful.

If, however, it is used for mean or destructive comments, or a "campaign"
in opposition, or just "me too" negative feedback, I think that says way
more about the SENDERS, and has a net-positive effect for the original idea.

Much like idiots at pep rallys heckling from the crowd. Especially when the
content is neither original nor clever.
