No one has tried it? You have been reading the news for the last X number of months/years, right? Offers of deals to help out Iran, requests for them to live up to their signed agreements as per the nuclear non-proliferation act, etc. Before there were sanctions there was diplomacy and even now that there are sanctions, there is still diplomacy. No one wants war. No one wants to invade Iran. There's one issue on the table and one issue only - their rush towards a nuclear weapon. If diplomacy can stop that then it's all good.
