I would disagree...the protests really cast a bright lite on it.

The Vietnam war ran it's course but it's not protests that stopped our
involvement, they were going 20 years. Anti-war protests ended with the
final withdrawal of troops after the Paris Peace
Accords<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Peace_Accords>were signed in
1973.

Strikes made the difference in the Labor Movement, not protests.
