Sometimes when they do gum work, they don't numb it unless you specifically request it. Once it is numbed, it won't hurt while they are doing the procedure. It will hurt a lot after, so ask for pain meds. After you have this done, I'll tell about my dental nightmare, which involves my mom - who has dementia - and a two by two wooden spindle.
